How to get rid of a Diamond Resorts / Hilton Vacation Club timeshare

Joining TUG

Guaranteed to be the best timeshare decision you ever make!

You will find the internet, radio and TV flooded with companies claiming to provide you a way to get you out of your Diamond Resorts / HVC Timeshare, you quite literally cannot throw a rock without hitting at least a half-dozen of these outfits they have become so popular. The dirty little secret is that all of these companies charge hundreds if not thousands of dollars to "help" you do something you can do yourself for far less if not completely free!

You might ask how these companies can do business like this? The answer is simple:

Owners don't find Timeshare Users Group first to get the truth about their options!

This is such an important topic, we actually created a youtube video to cover it also! Check it out here:

How do I get rid of my Diamond Resorts Timeshare?

Just like with any other Timeshare, all owners have 3 options available to them:

  • Find a new owner on the resale market even if it means giving it away for free
  • Give the ownership back to the DRI/HVC
  • Stop paying and let them eventually foreclose

For more in depth help these 3 options are covered in other Timeshare advice articles as well as the TUG DRI/HVC owner forum!

What is the Diamond Resorts Transitions program and how do I give my Timeshare back?

This program dubbed "Transitions" provides a service to allow existing Diamond Resorts owners to exit their ownership and surrender it back to DRI/HVC directly!

This program can be found here Transitions homepage and includes both an email, and direct phone number to contact Hilton/Diamond and begin the process of ending your ownership.

*Note that DRI was recently purchased by Hilton Grand Vacations and is being rebranded as Hilton Vacations Club, so this will explain links ending up on hilton websites vs diamond etc.

This seems too good to be true, whats the catch?

While there is no "catch", there are two requirements for an owner to be eligible to use this program

  • Your ownership must be paid off
  • You cannot be delinquent in your maintenance fees
  • Your must not have purchased your ownership on the resale market

There is also usually a monetary fee that DRI/HVC will charge you to surrender your Timeshare back, depending on the details of your ownership

If Transitions is so easy, why dont more owners use it?

Quite frankly, it is because Diamond/HVC owners dont know the program exists and in some cases the fee paid to DRI/Hilton is significant! Admittedly DRI/Hilton isnt going to go out of its way to promote such a program, although they do regularly advertise its existence to its owners. The fact of the matter is that Timeshare Exit companies do far more to specifically target and promote their "services" to owners because that is how they make their money!

There are thousands of DRI/HVC Timeshare owners who feel they are stuck with their timeshare, and doing a search on google will return hundreds of results the majority of which are upfront fee Timeshare exit companies promising an easy way out!

Rest assured when you contact them, you wont be told about this program as if you knew, why would you pay them money to do something you can do yourself with a simple phone call? There is simply no money to be made off you by telling you the truth!

Am I truly out of my Diamond Resorts Timeshare?

Yes! Once you have completed the process of surrendering your Ownership back, you are no longer an owner and no longer have any yearly maintenance fee obligations!

This is hard to believe, can you prove this program works?

Absolutely! Transitions has been in existence for years and was first announced on TUG back in 2017. Since then plenty of DRI Owners have discovered this info thru TUG and successfully ended their timeshare ownerships! You can view the full discussion thread here that is still active with owners finding it every single week! Give back your Diamond Resorts Timeshare.

These are the lucky ones like yourself, unfortunately the rest likely pay some random company a fortune to do something they could have done themselves!

What if I dont want to just give it back to DRI/Hilton?

Sadly the majority of Diamond Resorts Ownerships have little to no resale value due to the heavy restrictions placed on the resale buyer and thus have to be offered on the resale market for free to have any hope of attracting someone to take it off your hands!

If you wish to investigate this route, we would suggest starting with our How to Sell your Timeshare Guide for more details on how to sell your Timeshare yourself without paying large upfront fees and without being scammed!

TUG provides a completely free option to give away an unwanted timeshare which you are welcome to utilize here: Give away your Timeshare for Free!

A 3rd and final "nuclear" option would be to simply stop paying. This strategy is always suggested as a complete last resort as it comes with potentially negative ramifications that anyone would expect when defaulting on a loan or other financial obligation. We actually cover this specific topic in our Youtube Video series here:

The Final Word Getting rid of a Diamond Resorts / HVC Timeshare!

Despite what any other company tells you (remember, these companies rely on misleading you in order to get your business, telling you the truth is not profitable in the Timeshare industry), this is an official Diamond Resorts program, and you are dealing directly with them and not some 3rd party. It only takes a phone call to get started!

We urge any DRI/HVC owner who has reached the end of their timeshare lifetime to investigate this option as a solution to dispose of an unwanted timeshare ownership!

Of course if the cost to do this is unappealing, you can always try to give it away for free to a willing owner, or simply walk away!

Come check out our free HVC/DRI owner Discussion forums! if you have any additional questions or concerns! There are thousands of other Diamond Resorts owners on this forum who answer questions all day every day!
